Sadaqah (charity) is one of the most beloved acts of worship in Islam. It is not only a means of helping those in need but also a way to purify our wealth and soul. Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (PBUH) have highlighted its immense virtues and blessings.
1. Multiplied Rewards
Allah (SWT) promises to multiply the rewards for those who give charity sincerely:
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain]. It grows seven ears; in every ear is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah: 261)
Every small act of charity can bring you immense rewards, far beyond your imagination.
2. Protection from Calamities
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.”
(Al-Tirmidhi)
Sadaqah acts as a shield that protects you and your family from trials and tribulations.
3. Shade on the Day of Judgment
The Day of Judgment will be a day of immense heat and distress, but those who give charity will find shade under the mercy of Allah.
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”
(Al-Tirmidhi)
4. Increases Wealth
Giving charity does not decrease your wealth; instead, it brings barakah (blessings). Allah (SWT) says:
“But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] – He will compensate it; and He is the best of providers.”
(Surah Saba: 39)
The Prophet (PBUH) also assured us:
“Charity does not decrease wealth.”
(Sahih Muslim)
5. Purifies the Soul
Charity purifies our hearts from greed and selfishness, helping us develop empathy and compassion for others. Allah (SWT) says:
“Take, [O Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them to increase.”
(Surah At-Tawbah: 103)
6. A Continuous Reward (Sadaqah Jariyah)
The rewards of certain types of charity, known as Sadaqah Jariyah, continue even after death. The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: an ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Examples of Sadaqah Jariyah include building a mosque, digging a well, or contributing to education.
7. Elevation of Status in the Hereafter
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Allah will say (on the Day of Judgment), ‘O son of Adam, I was hungry, but you did not feed Me.’ He will reply, ‘My Lord, how can I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ Allah will say, ‘Did you not know that My servant was hungry, and you did not feed him? If you had fed him, you would have found Me there.’”
(Sahih Muslim)
Through charity, you earn Allah's love and closeness in the Hereafter.
Conclusion
Sadaqah is a small act with endless rewards. Whether it is a monetary donation, a kind word, or even a smile, every act of charity counts. Give regularly, no matter how small, and do so with sincerity, seeking only the pleasure of Allah.
“Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.”
(Surah An-Nahl: 128)
May Allah (SWT) make us among those who give generously and receive abundant rewards in this life and the Hereafter. Ameen.
